Business Development Director Amy Revell has swapped the UK for the South of France this week to attend her very first MIPIM – the world’s largest property expo, which takes place in Cannes every year. A MIPIM newbie, Amy explains the benefits which property professionals from across the globe travel here for annually.
MIPIM may be a familiar name for those of us working in the property and construction industry, but it’s impossible to know what to expect until you arrive. This is the first time we’ve been to MIPIM and I’ve been really enjoying the opportunity to get to know new contacts, build relationships with existing ones and find out more about what is going on across the UK.
It’s absolutely true that MIPIM is wall-to-wall intensive networking – but with a real added bonus. Everyone who has traveled to Cannes for the exhibition is here to do business. There is a real sense of openness among the delegates; we are all here to find out more about each other and ultimately build long-standing relationships and source new opportunities.
MIPIM really is a great environment to meet key decision makers from towns, cities and businesses from across not only the UK but the globe, and to be able to chat about what we do. As well as a packed diary of pre-arranged appointments, ad-hoc conversations are also a huge part of what goes on at MIPIM. Where else would you be able to bump into everyone from business owners to high level public sector officials on a whim – and be able to talk business? That’s the beauty of MIPIM.
As a first-timer, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but so far, it has been an incredibly positive experience. The relaxed atmosphere and approachability of delegates makes for the perfect environment for collaboration – and we are excited about getting back to the UK and following up on the leads we have generated while we have been in Cannes. Now the hard work begins!
